One of the smartest, brightest Online Business Marketing Coaches in the online industry by the name of Tina Forsyth recently posted this on her Facebook page.
With her permission, I am reposting here on my blog because Tina explains so beautifully what many in the Virtual Assistant, OBM and PM industry have been trying to explain for years. "...there is no such thing as a 'one size fits all' VA or OBM."
"Tina, I need to hire a VA/OBM... can you recommend someone who would be a good fit?"
In many ways, this question is no different than asking
"Tina, I'm looking to get married... can you recommend someone?"
My answer (in both cases, ha!) will most likely be no - and here's why.
If I don't know you. I don't know your values. Your leadership style. The vision you have for your company.
If I don't know your business. I don't know your business model. Your goals and priorities.
If I don't know the specifics of what you want and need from this person. What exactly needs to be done in your business. What systems are you using? What tasks need to be accomplished? What skills do they need to bring to the table?
Put simply - no two businesses are the same.
And there is no such thing as a 'one size fits all' VA or OBM.
It's dangerous to blindly ask for - and receive - a recommendation without also having done the work to get clear on who you need, and asking someone who understands it in depth.
When I do work with clients this is easier for me to do (and I do offer Who to Hire Next sessions if you are interested.)
And when I don't know you I am always happy to refer you to our Virtual Biz Connect Directory so that you can look for a good fit (see link in comments if you want to check out that site.)
Your team relationships matter - if you want to find the right fit be willing to put in the work upfront to make it happen.
You will be glad you did. 💜
When you work with me, Janine Gregor, to pre-qualify your virtual professionals, I offer each client at least 2, if not 3 vetted candidates from which to choose.
Recently, I've been told that the choice is so close that the client does not how to make that choice.
One way to single out one VA from another is to give each a small project that you need completed within a short period of time. Ask for a proposal for that project and then guage the choice on the results of that work
